From Refuge Buffère, head south down the valley towards Col de Buffère, at an altitude of 2,320 m. From here, climb a gentle slope to the "Ressaut Pinon" combe, a distinctive plateau between Grand Aréa and Pin de Sucre. Then head up the challenging south-facing slopes to reach a large knoll overlooking the north combe. From here, you can reach the summit in 15 minutes. The 360° panorama provides a welcome respite from the climb.
Descend via Grand Col to the south combe and then head north to the refuge.
Note that from the summit, you can descend through the ravine to the east.
The route can be explored on snowshoes as far as the "Ressaut Pinon" and back (with superb views).
