From Bardonecchia (1,312 m), follow the main road towards Melezet-Pian del Colle (a former border crossing). Just before the Pian del Colle campsite (1,445 m), there is a car park from which the footpath for Vallée Etroite begins (not on the map). This path takes you along the left bank of the stream running through Vallée Etroite. At the bottom of the "Paroi des Militaires" plateau, at La Bergerie (1,711 m), cross the stream and continue along the path until you reach Granges de la Vallée Etroite and its two refuges (I Re Magi and Terzo Alpini). You can also cross the stream after the Bergerie (there are two other footbridges).
For mountain bikers, from Bardonecchia (1,312 m), head for Pian del Colle (1,445 m) and follow the route up Vallée Etroite. Pass the Sette Fontane dam and the junction for Col de l'Echelle and continue along the tarmac road up to Parois des Militaires (1,680 m). Follow the road under Parois des Militaires for 1 km as far as the Bergerie (1,711 m) and climb the last 3 bends to reach Granges and the Vallée Etroite refuges (1,760 m).
