Ascent:
From Granges de la Vallée Etroite (1,760 m), follow the left bank of the Vallée Etroite stream to Pont de la Fonderie (1,897 m). From here, follow the path north up steep slopes that lead to a natural overlook under the southern ridge of Pointe Balthazar. The gradient becomes gentler until you reach Vallon des Sables on your left. Climb up this valley, passing the foot of Pointe Melchior and then head north-west to reach Pointe Balthazar (3,163 m) on very steep slopes. Bring a length of rope with you for the summit.
Descent:
Via the same route. Important to note: For the south-facing slopes, the snow must be very firm.
Note: This route requires a good level of fitness.
Not one for everyone!
